Therapeutic approaches I use regularly
Therapies I use regularly
Eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (Emdr)
The world health organisation (WHO) now recognises EMDR as the treatment of choice for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and traumatic experiences. Through the lens of EMDR, trauma is defined as any adverse life
experience, and EMDR aspires to treat exactly that. It is for those memories that just feel stuck,
the emotional pain that feels hard to let go, and the thoughts that keep you awake at night.
EMDR supports clients to process traumatic experiences and move towards living a fulfilling
life with new meanings attached their experiences.
Animal assisted therapy
The unconditional love, positive regard and connection that can be felt when interacting with
an animal has now been widely recognised to have mental health benefits.
I have always loved animals and previously worked as a psychologist at an Equine Therapy and Natural Horsemanship lodge. It was here that I met my new co- therapist, Luna, a black Shetland pony, who worked alongside me to support clients develop communication and emotional regulation skills, build trust, practice assertiveness and mindfulness, and increase interpersonal relationship skills.
I enjoy working in nature-based environments and appreciate the experiential impact that comes
from working with animals.

strengths-based
postive psychology approach
A strengths-based / Positive psychology approach shifts the focus from what is ‘wrong’, and focuses on promoting and increasing the individual’s overall sense of fulfilment and wellbeing in life.
I appreciate this approach as it
encourages us to recognise our individual strengths, engage in value-based living, make
time for gratitude, and is grounded in creating the life we want.
solution focused therapy
Solution Focused Therapy is grounded in the present and aims to supports people to explore their challenges and find proactive solutions.
It is a goal-oriented approach which supports people to create change, notice their strengths and
problem solve their concerns.
I enjoy using Solution Focused Therapy
as it is guided by the individual’s hope for their
future, uses the individuals natural resources and have found that this approach works well with individuals, children and families.
